Game One of this year's Holden State of Origin Series marks the 100th clash between fierce rugby league rivals New South Wales and Queensland. While the match proved an unhappy one for the Maroons as Paul Gallen, Luke Lewis and Jamie Soward led NSW to a strong 18-8 win and levelled the series one-apiece, captain Darren Lockyer bagged himself a piece of Origin history as he broke Allan Langer's record for most Origin appearances with his 35th start for Queensland. Having kicked the Cane Toads to a famous 24-23 victory in his first official interstate game back in 1998 (Lockyer also represented Queensland twice in the Super League Tri-Series a year earlier), Lockyer was one of the first Maroons picked over the ensuing 13 years, and as usual had the last laugh on the Blues in the next match, retiring from Origin as his side triumphed 34-24 for a sixth straight series win.
