86. 1981: Eric Grothe length of the field try
The second ever State of Origin fixture kicked off in spectacular fashion with an Eric Grothe length of the field try and only the seventh try scored in the Origin arena. Laying the platform for the hundreds of brilliant tries to come from either state, Grothe raced away downfield and ignored the pressure of Queensland winger Brad Backer and fullback Colin Scott to practically crawl his way to the try-line by the end. The three points as it were back in this day came from an untimely error from Queensland hooker Greg Conescu which ignited the Parramatta winger to race away towards the white stripe.
