After winning the Charity Shield again, the Auckland Nines and the World Club Challenge in the off-season the Rabbitohs continued their winning ways when they travelled up to Suncorp Stadium and absolutely slammed the Broncos in coach Wayne Bennett's first game back at the helm in Brisbane. Meanwhile Parramatta shot to the top of the NRL Telstra Premiership ladder with their demolition of the Sea Eagles, the Panthers avenged their preliminary final loss from the season prior by beating the Bulldogs and the Roosters didn't let the Townsville heat get to them by pecking the Cowboys to pieces.
