I’ve been to Old Trafford and seen Manchester United come from 3-1 down with only eight minutes left to level an important European Champions League fixture, and I was there when Danny Green knocked-out boxing icon Roy Jones jnr in the first round, but I have to say up until Wednesday night I had never experienced something quite like a State of Origin clash at Suncorp Stadium.

When that ‘Queenslander’ chant explodes into life, the whole place shakes; it is awe-inspiring. I can only imagine what it feels like for the players in the Maroon jerseys on the field. I would argue it is up there with one of the loudest and intense chants in world sport. It is something that needs to be experienced first-hand to be appreciated.

Congratulations to Queensland for taking the first game, but NSW gave them one hell of a contest.
