So you want to play NRL fantasy – but you are not sure if it is for you? Perhaps you’d like to test the water to get a taste of what it is all about.

NRL All Stars Dream Team is for you! You don’t need to worry about salary caps, trades or bye weeks, you simply pick six players that you think will score the most points.

How it works

You have to pick one player in six different positions; hooker, front-row forward, second-row forward, half, centre and a winger/fullback.

All you have to do then is sit back and watch them score points in real time. It’s that simple.

How to do well?

You need to decide who is most likely to score big points in a one-off game. Also – you need to think what the coaches are going to do – because your players can’t score points from the bench! That means you should be looking for players who are most likely to get more game time. It is early in the season, so you can expect the forwards to get rotated fairly often. You need to look at the depth on both squads and decide who is likely to see more game time.

It is a similar story for the backs, but you can expect them to play more minutes, so in these positions, you have to decide who is most likely to have a big impact on the game. Will Inglis be in irresistible form, what about Dally M Player of the Year Ben Barba? You should look at the teams and decide who you think will win, the players on the winning side in a one-off game a more likely to score big points. Tries, tackle-breaks and offloads will ensure big scores for the outside backs.

If you think the Indigenous All Stars are going to win, look for players like Johnathan Thurston, Ben Barba and Greg Inglis to score big points.

If you think the NRL All Stars are going to win, it is hard to go passed Cam Smith, Jarryd Hayne, Benji Marshall and Akuila Uate.

But Dream Team is not an exact science; it is about picking players you think will do well. All Stars Dream Team should give you a good taste of what it is like playing NRL Dream Team. You are in control, you have to make the big decisions. Then sit back, watch the game and feel yourself getting more involved when the players you have picked have the ball or make a tackle. You will find yourself cheering louder if your players do well. It makes you appreciate the amount of work they get through in a game. And will ultimately help you enjoy the game of Rugby League in a new way.
