Despite the fact that they were stripped of two premierships due to salary cap breaches, the Melbourne Storm have an opportunity to win their third grand final in seven years when they face the Bulldogs this Sunday at ANZ Stadium.
Tonight on NRL Daily journalists Brent Read and Mitchell Dale join the panel to debate if the Storm can be considered a dynasty, like the magnificent St George sides of the '60s and the dominant Broncos of the '90s and early 2000s.
“No question their results have been outstanding and coach Craig Bellamy has done a great job to keep them at the top,” Read says. “[But] I think they need to win a premiership to be considered a dynasty.”
Dale agrees, stating that the history books have only one premiership attributed to the Storm.
“While the players believe they still deserve the two titles they were stripped of, the fact is their administration cheated the cap and the NRL ruled the club be stripped of the titles,” he says.
“Secondly, even if they had not been stripped of those two premierships, they have not been able to win back-to-back grand finals like the St George sides of the '60s, Parra of the '80s and Brisbane of the '90s.”
Also on tonight’s show we debate which team from this year’s top eight will struggle in 2013 and should the players or the coach be held most responsible for a team’s disappointing season.
