Australia v Fiji player ratings

We rate every player from Australia's 34-2 win over Fiji at the Rugby League World Cup.

AUSTRALIA

Greg Inglis: Excellent at fullback, Inglis was instrumental in the lead-up to tries to Boyd and Jennings in first half and Lewis in second half. Broke four tackles and ran a game-high 189 metres from 18 runs. 8.5

Jarryd Hayne: Did his job well on right wing, showed good defence and regathered the kick that led to the Josh Morris try. Also made four tackle breaks. 7.5

Josh Morris: Scored a try off a Hayne kick regather and produced a solid all-round performance. 7.5

Michael Jennings: Scored a try with a strong run in the first half and looked dangerous in attack, although he did bomb two certain tries.  7

Darius Boyd: Grabbed a try after some good lead-up work by Inglis in the first half. A typically reliable performance. 7.5

Johnathan Thurston: A Man of the Match performance, making a game-high eight tackle breaks including two that should have led to tries. Also nailed two sideline conversions in difficult kicking conditions. 9

Daly Cherry-Evans: Fantastic debut at halfback. Scored a try off a Tamou line break, set up the try to Papalii in the first half with a trademark short ball and was involved in the lead-up work to the Lewis try. Strong kicking game. 8

Matthew Scott: Another strong performance from the premier prop, making 112 metres from 13 runs. One strong run in particular led to Jennings' try in the first half. Also made 24 tackles and no errors. 8

Cameron Smith: Made 31 tackles and no errors, despite getting his hands on the ball more than every other player on the field. His kicking game out of dummy half has proven to be a match-winner. Was replaced by Farah at hooker later in the game. 7.5

James Tamou: Improved on his performance against England. Excellent in attack, making three tackle breaks, including one that led to the Cherry-Evans try. Carved up 126 metres from 13 carries, making for a mistake-free performance from the starting props. 7.5

Luke Lewis: Dangerous on the left edge before he dislocated his shoulder late in the second half. Scored a try off an Inglis bust only minutes before. Made the second-most tackles for the Kangaroos with 33. 7.5

Josh Papalii: A dream Test debut at starting second-row with a line break that led to his first try. Solid in defence and no errors. 7

Nate Myles: Led the Kangaroos in defence with 43 tackles to his name. Always rises for the big games, carrying the ball 11 times. 7.5

Boyd Cordner: Made his debut off the bench, using his trademark strong charges – including one in the lead up to Jennings' try in the first half. 7

Robbie Farah: Like last game, added some energy to the Kangaroos attack in the later stages of the match. Put in some good kicks that questioned the Fijian defence. A real weapon for coach Tim Sheens. 7

Andrew Fifita: Another solid performance off the bench. Ran a total of 112 metres from 15 runs as well as 13 hitups. He was able to get three offloads away, although he did concede two penalties. 7

Paul Gallen: Another solid performance despite coming off the bench. He ran 117 metres from 14 runs. 7.5

FIJI

Kevin Naiqama: A quiet performance. He did put in a couple of good kicks when they were in attacking position but made two errors. 6.5

Marika Koroibete: Looked good when he had the ball, making nine runs and recording the team's lone tackle break. Struggled to contain Boyd and Jennings on the left side. 6.5

Sisa Waqa: Was out of position against a world class centre in Jennings. 6

Daryl Millard: Solid in both attack and defence, but couldn't penetrate the Aussie wall. Ran 70 metres and made 15 tackles. 7

Akuila Uate: The best in the Fijian backline, was error-free in tough conditions and made 108 metres from 13 runs. 7.5

Alipate Norilea: Put in a few good attacking kicks to get the Fijians in good field possession, including one that led to a goal line drop-out and another that almost led to a try to Koroisau. Shaky in defence however, missing five tackles. Scored the Fijians' only points in the match – a penalty kick in the first half. 6.5

Aaron Groom: Struggled to get into any rhythm. He was the main general play kicker for the Fijians with 11 kicks finding 402 metres. 7

Ashton Sims: Solid performance by the prop, including an impressive first stint. Made strong runs and was equal second for the Fijians in terms of hitups with 11. 7.5

James Storer: Not much impact on the game at hooker. No runs but was strong in defence. 6.5

Petero Civoniceva: The best forward on field. He was very involved in each set – often going for two runs a set – making the most metres from both teams as well as the second-most tackles of the match. An inspirational performance, as expected, from the Fijian skipper. 8

Tariq Sims: Following his captain's effort, he made the most runs for Fiji with 16 for a total of 116 metres and also led the tackle count for the Fijians with 34 to his name. 7.5

Jayson Bukuya: Worked hard in defence with 28 tackles but missed three and made two errors including a couple of knock-ons on the Australian goal line that eased pressure off Australia. 7

Korbin Sims: Tried hard, making plenty of metres and the second-most tackles for the Fijians. 7

Apisai Koroisau: Almost scored a try in the second half only to be held up millimetres from the line. Struggled to make an impact in trying conditions. 7

Eloni Vunakece: Stood out because of his hair, but was limited impact off the bench. 6.5

Kane Evans: Tried to put his stamp on the game with a couple of big hits and strong runs, but needed more of the ball. 6.5

Vitale Roqica: Made more metres than any other player on the Fijian bench. 7
