One of Australia’s top business advisors, Tony McGrath, is joining the Australian Rugby League Commission.
A former partner at KPMG, Mr McGrath is the co-founder, partner and Co-Chairman of McGrathNicol, one of the country’s most highly-respected restructuring and advisory firms.
ARLC Chairman John Grant said Mr McGrath brings more than 25 years experience in business, particularly in re-shaping companies, to the Commission.
He is also on the boards of QBE Insurance (Australia) Limited, the National Foundation for Medical Research and Innovation as well as Special Olympics Australia.
“Off the field, the Commission remains focused on ensuring Rugby League has the right governance and commercial frameworks in place to keep growing as a professional sport,” Mr Grant said.
“We are delighted to have Tony McGrath agree to join the Commission. He has advised on a number of high profile corporate restructures and will bring valuable experience to the business of rugby league.
“He has also proven to be a successful businessman in his own right in his leadership of McGrathNicol over the last 10 years and, as we found in our discussions with him, he has a great feel for the game of rugby league.”
Mr McGrath said he was looking forward to bringing his experience in business to support the ARLC.
“I am looking forward to working with my fellow Commissioners and the NRL Senior Management team to assist them on what has clearly been a successful journey since the formation of the Commission in November 2012,” he said.
Mr McGrath will commence his term as Commissioner immediately, filling a vacancy created when Mr Peter Gregg retired at the Annual General Meeting in February this year.
