Tough as Tungsten Knights second-rower Beau Scott is set to finish his career in the red and blue, extending his current contract by an extra season until the end of 2017.

Scott, who played a starring role in NSW's drought-breaking Origin series win earlier in the year, will be 33 when the deal expires, having joined the club as a marquee signing at the beginning of last season.

Scott is the first of Newcastle's stars to formally commit to the club since coach Wayne Bennett announced he would be departing the Knights a month ago, though he and another of the veteran coach's disciples, Jeremy Smith, confirmed recently that they did not have get-out clauses in their contracts should Bennett leave.

The Blues back-rower, who has played 176 NRL games in stints with the Sharks, Dragons and now Newcastle, said despite the Knights' disappointing season to date, he was happy to extend his time with the club.

"Newcastle is a great club with plenty of passion. I want to be part of that going forward," Scott said.

"We have some very, very good youngsters coming through and I look forward to working with them in the years ahead.

"While this year has been disappointing from a results point of view, I am confident some good times are just around the corner."
