Hotel rooms, training fields, bus bookings and the impending arrival of James Tamou's second child were just some of the logistical considerations to be addressed in the wake of Friday night's postponement of the Anzac Test.
When the Kangaroos and Kiwis teams arrive at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday every effort will have been made to make sure that the mindset they had locked and loaded on Friday can be replicated less than 48 hours later.
At 5pm on Friday evening the major stakeholders convened to discuss whether the Test could go ahead as planned and when a decision was reached at 6.30pm to call the game off, Australian team manager Gareth Holmes and the support staff went to work.
"The first order of business for me was to make sure that the team was calm and understanding of what had just happened," Holmes told NRL.com.
"We got advice that the game was cancelled as we stepped off the team bus at Suncorp. They were getting bombarded by their family members about what was going on and from there it was a matter of changing flight details and seeing if we could extend our stay at the Sofitel.
"We were very mindful that the NRL clubs are preparing for Round 9 and want to get their players back as soon as possible and we also assisted family of the players who had to change their travel arrangements.
"The most complicated part of the night was letting the players know as soon as we could that their travel arrangements had been sorted out and that their families' travel arrangements had been sorted out as soon as possible."
With the Broncos to face the Panthers and Roosters hosting the Wests Tigers on Friday night, the post-game priority on Sunday is to get players back to their clubs in a timely fashion, including an expectant father.
"I've got Jimmy Tamou's wife who is due to give birth any minute so he's obviously keen to get home and his phone has been very close to him all week," Holmes said. "He will come off the field on Sunday, run through a shower, I'll have a car waiting for him so he can go straight to the airport and get back to Townsville.
"With the players due to play next Friday night it will be a process of getting them through the post-game presentations, media commitments, into a bus and straight to the airport and back to their clubs in the best shape possible with a short turnaround."
As is the case with all such situations, a lot of people had to come together in a short space of time to turn a logistical nightmare into a mere inconvenience.
"The Sofitel were great, not only with rooms but with dining in and out of the hotel and our travel providers were also fantastic," Holmes said.
"I've got to give my staff a massive rap as well. They all pitched in where they needed to – which is not uncommon – so I'm quite lucky that everyone jumps on board and helps in where they can."
