He carries around a Queensland driver licence, is a Queensland resident, part-owns a Queensland-based business and his wife is about to give birth to a Queenslander and now staunch New South Wales Welshman Greg Bird wants to finish his career in the Sunshine State.
Ahead of an all-Queensland clash on Friday night that he says doesn't stir his inner Blue beast unless it is played at Suncorp Stadium, Bird has opened up about his future at the Titans and his desire to play on well into his 30s.
Having just turned 32 in February Bird has shown in the past month that at his best he is the Titans' most influential player but you sense he is concerned a run of suspensions in recent years and some off-field misdemeanours will count against him.
Overlooked for the captaincy despite being the most obvious on-field leader, Bird expressed his desire to extend his tenure at the Titans beyond 2017 and into a ninth season with the club but is realistic enough to know that's not always how life pans out.
"You don't know what's going to happen with rugby league. I wish I could say that, I love this place and I'd stay here forever but you have to go where job opportunities are in the future," Bird said ahead of the clash with the Broncos, a team he has beaten just twice in 16 attempts during his career.
"You never know what will happen after this contract. The Titans might not want a bar of me and I'll have to go and find a contract somewhere else.
"Ideally I'd love to stay here forever, it's a beautiful place to live and the Gold Coast people have been great for me since I came back here from France but we'll see what happens."
Handed a roaming role at lock forward reminiscent of that which he played early in his career, Bird is again combining aggression with deft skill, doing the hard yards and then chiming in with some of the polish.
He has three try assists and three line-break assists to go with an average of 115 metres in 63 minutes per game and believes that if his body is willing he still has much to offer in the NRL.
"I'm quite happy with the way my form is at the moment. I don't feel as though I'm slowing anyone down and I'm pulling my weight as a leader in the club," said Bird, who will play his 112th game for the club on Friday night, eighth on the Titans' all-time list for games played.
"If that's the case when negotiations come up probably this time next year I'd like to stay and play on.
"I wish I had a crystal ball to tell you how my body is going to feel at that stage but I'll have to wait and see what 'King' (Titans coach Neil Henry) and the rest of the admin staff have to say about it."
If the endorsement of the current captain counts for anything then Bird should get his wish, with Nathan Friend high in his praise for the 16-time Origin representative.
"He always gives 100 per cent. He's always out there trying to enforce his presence on the field and that's why you love playing with the guy," Friend said.
"He's full of confidence so wherever he plays this weekend I'm glad I'm beside him."
As for whether the imminent arrival of his first child could see him miss the Broncos blockbuster – wife Becky is due to give birth on April 14 – Bird jokingly suggested he would somehow find a way to take his place for the Titans.
"I tried to book into Tweed Hospital but they said Pindara was a bit too close," said Bird of his firstborn being a Queenslander.
"I dare say I'll have plenty of notice being our first child. Even if Becky does go into labour I should be able to duck out for a couple of hours and have a game of footy and get back in time."
