St George Illawarra under-20s captain Jack Bird has signed a two-year contract with the Cronulla Sharks.

Set to commence his time at Cronulla once his commitments with the Dragons NYC team are complete, Bird is poised to make the jump up into the Sharks' fulltime NRL squad in 2015.

Having played with several junior New South Wales teams since he was 15, including the under-20s State of Origin match earlier this season, the back-rower has been earmarked for a shift to the backline in the Shire next season.

Sharks Football Manager Darren Mooney predicts a bright future for Bird at the Cronulla club.

“He is an outstanding talent, which is shown by his extensive junior representative background,” Mooney said. “We are confident Jack can make the transition from the NYC into the NRL and we will give him every opportunity to make that step."
