The Brisbane Broncos have announced plans for an innovative, administration and community facility at Red Hill after being given the go-ahead by Brisbane City Council.
The $27-million complex will be known as the Training, Administration and Community Facility and will be situited on the site of the former Ithaca TAFE campus, which is directly across the road from the Broncos' current training base.
The three-storey building will comprise community, training, administration, restaurant and retail facilities including a gymnasium, sports medicine and rehabilitation areas, a full sized training field open to the community and a high-spec lecture theatre shared between the football department and the community.
Announcing the project alongside Broncos CEO Paul White, Brisbane Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the new project would benefit the local community and encourage residents to get behind the city’s much-loved rugby league team.
“This project demonstrates a significant investment in Brisbane from one of our city’s best sporting clubs as they strive to ensure the Broncos remain one of the leading clubs in the NRL,” Cr Quirk said.
Cr Quirk said the facility would be located to the south of the site with the ground level to include the entry lobby, a retail store and café, with access from Fulcher Road to activate the street edge.
Level two would contain coaching staff offices and player meeting areas as well as a community education centre that will be open to and used by primary schools and community groups. The third level will house the administration offices for the Brisbane Broncos.
The council application was lodged in December and community consultation held during February.
The start date for construction is yet to be determined.
