Corey Parker says the Broncos won't be getting ahead of themselves despite taking another impressive stride towards the minor premiership after Friday night's 34-0 shutout of the Titans.
Brisbane's victory in the local derby marked their eighth-straight win and moved the ladder leaders up to 34 competition points, four points in front of fellow Queensland rivals the Cowboys who host the Eels on Monday night.
Brutal Bronco defence was again on show at Suncorp Stadium as Brisbane held a side scoreless for the first time since Round 25 of the 2006 season – the same year the club last won a premiership.
Parker is one of only five current Broncos players left from their premiership side of '06, but hosed down any comparisons to the team that won Brisbane their sixth title.
"2006 is nearly 10 years ago… This team has things going for it," Parker said.
"This group has been together for a period of time now and there have been no premierships or nothing to be getting carried away with.
"Yes, we've been playing some good footy, but that means absolutely nothing if you get to the end of the year don't come away with what you want to achieve."
After copping an accidental knee to his side by Ryan James midway through the second half, Parker dusted himself off to finish the match with 136 metres from 15 hit-ups, while scoring the opening try of the night in the 16th minute.
The 314-game veteran finished the match with 10 points and is only eight points away from breaking Darren Lockyer's point-scoring record for the club.
With the Broncos facing tough away trips against the Roosters and Rabbitohs, and a home match against the Storm in the final three rounds of the season, the experienced 33-year-old stressed there's still more work to be done by his side leading into the finals.
"It's important for us to keep our heads down and keep working on some things we need to improve on," he said.
"The best thing I believe is we're still not where we want to be at. We've got six more weeks to do that and hopefully we'll be there when it counts."
Meanwhile, Broncos coach Wayne Bennett is still looking for more from his players but acknowledged their recent efforts against the NRL's current bottom two teams after they swept aside the Tigers and Titans by an aggregate score of 76-16 within the space of five days.
"I'm not satisfied yet but it's OK," Bennett said.
"We played the bottom-two ranked teams in the last couple of weeks and we've come through them pretty much unscathed except for 15 minutes of madness last Sunday [against the West Tigers] when they picked up 16 [unanswered] points so I can't ask for much more than that.
"It's a long season and there are some big games in front of them but overall I'm pleased where they are at.
"The next five or six weeks will sort it out."
