Anthony Griffin has declared complacency won't be an issue for the Broncos in Friday night's clash against the toothless Sharks at Suncorp Stadium.
Despite Cronulla being winless since Round 8 and having not scored a single point in 270 minutes of football, the Broncos boss insists the two competition points on offer this week is far from guaranteed.
Griffin was quick to highlight Cronulla's forward pack as their major strength, but expects their young backline to be just as potent as the Broncos star-studded backs.
"They're a very good football team – they've got four or five Origin players there, they're hungry and they've been copping a pasting from the media," Griffin said.
"So we're certainly not going to be going out there with anything else besides our best football. We need one of our better performances tomorrow night. If there's a time for Cronulla to be at their best it's tomorrow night.
"[Luke] Lewis, [Paul] Gallen and [Anthony] Tupou and their young hooker [Michael Lichaa] is a real star in the making and they're going to be awfully hard to handle.
"They have quality [in their backline] too. [Michael] Gordon, Todd [Carney] and the young fella on the wing [Sosaia] Feki – they're no mugs. Their team is a quality team so it'll come down to us being hungrier than them."
Griffin said attitude was the key for the Broncos against a side as desperate as the Sharks.
"It's just about us and what we can control with this game tomorrow night. It doesn't matter if [there is] a bye [coming up] or in the middle of Origin period, we need to be at our best," he said.
"We've had a real focus over the past six to eight weeks about building our own performances and we're doing that at the moment.
"It's like any other game – we need to be smart with the ball and we need to be prepared to kick and chase and defend better than the opposition. Then whatever talent you've got comes out after that.
"It's going to be an intense battle I imagine and that's what we want and we need to be winning those types of games. If we're prepared for that – which I'm sure we will be – then individually guys with some talent will get a chance."
The Broncos will go into the match with the same 17 named on Tuesday, with Griffin confirming the Sharks match will come too soon for injured hooker Andrew McCullough, while he believes Corey Parker would be an outside chance of playing in Origin III if selected for the Maroons.
The initial diagnosis for Parker's facial fracture suffered in Round 13 against the Raiders was four to six weeks. The Broncos co-captain has already spent two-and-a-half weeks on the sideline and has another two weeks for the injury to heal before the third Origin clash on July 9.
