Following a weekend dealing with 20 stitches, a car crash and a knee complaint, Rabbitohs forward Jason Clark is hopeful of playing against St George Illawarra on Thursday night.
Speaking at Coogee Oval on Monday, Clark's vision is the best it's been since cutting his head open against Parramatta last Friday night with the swelling subsiding dramatically.
Clark also subluxed his knee in the warm-up of the same game but said the 20-plus stitches in his head will be the only thing holding him back.
"It wasn't a good day for me," Clark laughed.
"The swelling has gone down more and more every day. I'm not too worried about it but I'm just doing the old boxing style wiping it with ice in hope of playing.
"I have two little girls and they woke up on Friday morning and just laughed at me over how I only have one eye. My wife was just like 'How are ya?' too so I think she realises it's a pretty common thing me getting split. It's nothing to be too worried about."
The next day wasn't much better for Clark after pranging his car on his way to recovery at Redfern Oval.
That wasn't the worse part though for the 26-year-old family man, with rumour rife that he totalled his car instead.
"My mum ended up in tears after hearing that I'd apparently wrapped my car around a telegraph pole. Truth is, just as I was driving into training I skimmed across a pole and there was no damage to the car," he said.
"Rumour got out though that I had crashed it and totalled it and mum ended up in tears because [the rumour] went around quickly. It was a bit annoying that it happened but the truth came out as soon as she called me."
Clark is the epitome of South Sydney but there's no guarantee the Coogee Randwick Wombats junior will be re-signed at season's end.
"As of yet I don't know what's happening. South Sydney is home for me. But unfortunately you see what's happened with 'Peatsy' (Titans recruit Nathan Peats) and you realise it's a business. I just want to do the right thing by the club and the family as well," Clark said.
"If a contract is going to come, it's going to be because I'm playing good football so I'd like to think I'm worthy of a new deal. You never want to think you're going backwards so I'm always trying to better myself each week and improve."
Meanwhile Rabbitohs skipper Greg Inglis expressed his comfort in wearing the No. 6 jumper for the remainder of the season after the Rabbitohs' 22-20 win over the Eels.
"I did enjoy it that's for sure. I felt comfortable in the six. We stripped everything back and we stuck to a real simple game plan and that's what helped the 17 boys who took the field," Inglis said.
"Obviously you saw the outcome but it was a matter of freshening everything up around the team I think. We'll play around with this for a bit and weigh up the options and decide which way is best to go."
