DT Market Watch: Round 10

Injuries and form have seen a number of bargain buys come on the market in recent weeks, and players returning after long lay-offs are starting to hit form.

Let’s take a look at those players you should be investing in, holding or letting go, as well as some of the better captaincy options for Round 10.

Buy

Peta Hiku | WFB | $101,600

The new Sea Eagles fullback did a solid job filling in for Brett Stewart last week, and gets the number one jersey again this week. He’s started with scores of 30 & 17, which aren’t amazing, but as with Matt Moylan last week, starting fullbacks at a bargain basement price (in a good team) don’t come around too often. He likes to get involved in attack and can bust out of a tackle, making him a great cheap pick-up.

Ben Barba | WFB | $253,600

With the Bulldogs slowly hitting some form, it’s time for Ben Barba to strike. He’s just about bottomed out for this season, having lost $145,300, and a score of 40 last week shows he’s back in business. Breakevens are likely to hover around the 40 mark for a couple of weeks, but jump on now so you don’t miss the scores that could be coming.

Hold

Albert Kelly | HLF | $321,900

One of the great cash cows this season, Kelly has hit his peak for the season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you should give him the flick just yet. Alongside Aidan Sezer, Kelly is still scoring consistently in the 40s and above, so shouldn’t be offloaded unless you have a high quality replacement.

Shaun Johnson | HLF | $428,200

One of the more erratic players in the NRL, Johnson has found some consistency in Dream Team scores. He may have the occasional 20 or lower in him, but he’s shown an ability to score massive semi-regularly this year, and with a less dominant Thomas Leuluai outside him the kick metres and try-assists will generally flow his way. Johnson also can’t play Origin, so could be a big selection for overall players.

Sell

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves | FRF | $365,300

This one might be fairly self explanatory with a five week suspension, however those considering holding JWH until he comes face-to-face with the Sea Eagles again might be wise to either trade sideways or up to ensure they keep scoring points throughout this period. Brenton Lawrence is a great alternative here, with good scoring potential and more time expected after Jason King’s shoulder complications.

Ashley Harrison | 2RF | $304,900

The Titans lock has been through plenty already this year, and while he’s back from injury and playing well, it’s probably best to get out this week. A break even of 68 this week will mean a price drop is coming, at least while his 7 from Round 7 lingers.  He is also almost certain to be selected for Queensland, which will mean less minutes over the next 6-8 weeks.
