DT Market Watch: Round 11

Let’s take a look at those players you should be investing in, holding or letting go, as well as some of the better captaincy options for Round 11.

The Panthers five-eighth has sent shockwaves through western Sydney in recent weeks, leading Penrith to back-to-back wins over Melbourne and the Warriors. He’s scored 34 and 66 in those two wins, with his price set to soar in the coming weeks as they face St George Illawarra, Wests Tigers and Canberra. His bye weeks are perfectly placed for head-to-head players out there, and has a handy break-even of -43 this week. 

As hooker in the form team of the competition, Issac Luke is a valuable pick up in any sense, but this week could be the best time to grab him. After demolishing the Tigers last Friday night, Luke has a break-even of just 12 this week and has been playing 80 minutes consistently. With Robbie Farah and Cameron Smith set to begin their Origin campaigns after Round 11, the Kiwi stands as an excellent replacement option, scoring high and making you money.

 

Leaving the field with an eye injury last week cost Fensom big time, dropping by $21,600 and scoring just 39. A sizeable break-even score of 79 means some more price drops could be on the way for the tackling machine, but there is light at the end of the tunnel. Again it seems Fensom will be snubbed by Origin selectors, leaving him free to tackle anything that moves over the next six weeks, and for the head-to-head players out there byes in Rounds 12 and 18 mean he won’t be missing from your team at an important time.

Sims started to find some form after securing a regular starting spot in the second-row in Townsville, but a return of just 16 last week has some coaches worried about his long term viability. The message here however, is hold your horses cowboy. A break-even of 38 this week is more than achievable, particularly against a struggling Wests side who have leaked many points recently. He’s an outside change for Origin, but unlikely, and is tracking for a steady price growth for the next couple of months. There might be some short term pain, but Sims could be a valuable player around Origin.

The Newcastle five-eighth has long relied on kick-metres for the majority of his points, and many thought the move of Kurt Gidley to hooker would help him become a dominant playmaker and reflect well on his DT scores. This has been the case to a degree, however there are better value options around in the halves, particularly with Mullen’s solid price and break-even of 71. When your team wins by 40 and at five-eighth only scores 43, it’s probably time to sell up.

Despite producing very good numbers in a struggling team, now is the time to cash in on Farah and set yourself up for Origin. Those who jumped on early enough have been able to get a good increase in price over the past two months, but a horror loss last week hurt his price badly. Farah scored just 31, leaving him with a break-even of 100 this week and Origin football ahead. Sell now (possibly for an Issac Luke as mentioned above), and possibly set up to get him back in the final stretch of the season.
