Folkes appointed as Jillaroos Head Coach

Australia representative and premiership winning coach Steve Folkes has been appointed head coach for the Australian women's national Rugby League team, the Jillaroos.

Folkes’s first appointment will be to prepare the team for the Womens Test Match against New Zealand, as part of the Four Nations End of Season competition in November.

Talking about his appointment Steve Folkes said he was looking forward to the upcoming test campaign.

“I am excited about accepting this position, “said Folkes.

“I have been following the women’s progress across the last few years and look forward to contributing to it and hopefully retaining our winning status over New Zealand.”

Australia's Jillaroos are the current World Champions after breaking New Zealand’s 13 year reign winning the 2013 Rugby League World Cup at Headingly Stadium, UK.

“Folkes is a highly skilled and recognised coach and we are delighted that he has accepted the appointment,” NRL Head of Football Todd Greenberg said.

“Recently I attended the Womens Interstate Challenge at Leichhardt Oval and can vouch for the incredible talent we have on the field for Folkes to select the Jillaroos squad from.”

The representative squad will be announced in coming weeks selected by Folkes, NSW Coach Matt Head and QLD Coach Brad Donald.

The Australia v New Zealand Test will be played at Win Stadium Wollongong on Sunday, 9 November with tickets on sale at Ticketek.com
