Minister for Sport Stuart Ayres and the National Rugby League (NRL) today announced the successful applicants for more than $845,000 in grants to deliver facilities for grassroots football clubs in communities across local and regional NSW.

"The NSW Footy Facilities Fund is a successful collaboration between Government and sport," Mr Ayres said.

"It provides upgrades of amenities, canteens, seating and scoreboards which contribute to the overall enjoyment of people participating in and watching Rugby League at their local home ground.

"From Bondi to Bathurst or Junee to Kempsey the Footy Facilities Fund also provides upgrades for greater accessibility, better lighting, playing surfaces and fencing which contributes to the safety of players and officials."

Since April 2014, the NSW Footy Facilities Fund has provided $2.2 million towards improving the standard of Rugby League grounds and facilities in communities across the State.

NRL CEO Dave Smith said grassroots Rugby League is the lifeblood of our sport, especially in country NSW.

"This investment demonstrates the NRL's commitment to deliver improvements for grassroots Rugby League and nurture the stars of the future," Mr Smith said.

"At its heart, Rugby League is a community game, so it's only fair we invest back in our community.

"Giving boys and girls a safe place to get outside and be active is not just important for Rugby League, it's important for their health."

The program is jointly administered by Sport and Recreation, the Australian Rugby League Commission and NRL.
