Broncos second-rower Matt Gillett was one of several players to back up from Origin II.

Matt Gillett is in doubt for Brisbane's NRL match against South Sydney on Saturday after picking up a shoulder injury in Queensland's State of Origin III loss to NSW on Wednesday.

The Broncos star failed to train with the team in the captain's run on Friday, however is still considered an outside chance of playing at ANZ Stadium.

"He's getting scans on that at the moment. We just have to wait and see how everything pulls up," assistant coach Stephen Kearney said.

Fellow Maroons representative Josh McGuire trained separately from the team at Mascot Oval as he eases the workload on an Achilles injury he picked up last year.

Kearney said the Broncos prop wasn't in any doubt for Saturday's match.

"From the other night he's pulled up tight. Pretty short session, so we just wanted to make sure that he'll be okay for tomorrow. Light duties today," he said.

The Broncos are already without skipper Corey Parker, who copped a one-game ban for his elbow to the head of NSW fullback James Tedesco in Origin III.

Remarkably, it was the first time in Parker's 16-year career that he will be forced to miss a game through suspension.

Kearney said he wasn't surprised by the retiring veteran's clean sheet.

"To be fair, he doesn't play like that," he said.

"I was a bit disappointed that he got suspended for that. Everyone who knows Corey, knows he plays between the lines and plays in that manner."

Utility Jordan Kahu will comeback from a pectoral injury to play in the centres, with Lachlan Maranta on the wing and Alex Glenn expected to shift into the back row.
