Rival clubs were circling but in the end Ben Hampton has re-signed with the Melbourne Storm.
The young playmaker put pen to paper on a new deal that will see him remain in Victoria for the next two seasons.
Hampton had attracted interest from a number of clubs with his contract set to expire at season's end.
The 22-year-old has not been picked in the Storm 17 since the club's Round 16 loss to the Dragons.
With Hampton stuck in the NSW Cup speculation was growing the young Queenslander could be on his way out the door of AAMI Park.
But Wednesday's announcement has allowed Storm fans to rest easy after he agreed to stay with the club he debuted for last season.
"We are really pleased Ben has re-committed to the club," Storm football director Frank Ponissi said.
"We rate Ben highly on and off the field. He can play a number of positions and brings a real spark to the team.
"There are a key group of our emerging players who have come through the Storm system together and are now developing into very good NRL players; the club's future is in good hands."
With fellow halves Ben Roberts and Cody Walker set to leave the club at season's end, the Storm were keen to re-sign Hampton.
He has played 11 games this season with four try assists and three line break assists.
Hampton has represented Queensland right throughout junior level, including captaining the inaugural Under-20 Maroons side in 2012.
The time may not have arrived quite yet for the boy from Mareeba to be in contention for the Maroons No.6 but with two more years under the tutelage of Cooper Cronk the sky could very well be his limit.
