Rugby league returned with a bang over the weekend with the Harvey Norman Rugby League All Stars game headlining the return of the greatest game of all.

After a long off-season, the football finally returned with six trial matches throwing up some interesting results and big talking points.

While you shouldn't read too much into trial form, Todd Carney made a remarkable debut for the Sharks as they comprehensively accounted for reining premiers Manly.

The other big news to come from the weekend was the injuries to Souths star Greg Inglis and Warriors forward Jacob Lillyman.
