Bulldogs Josh Jackson slides back into the back row this weekend after filling in at five-eighth during their 22-12 loss to the Eels in Round 14.

Canterbury dominated Newcastle in their trial match, with the home side winning 56-8 at Belmore Sportsground on Saturday.

While the Knights fielded a NSW Cup side, Bulldogs coach Des Hasler gave game time to the likes of Greg Eastwood, Frank Pritchard, Sam Kasiano and Kangaroos forward Josh Jackson.

Jackson, who has had a shortened pre-season leading into the 2015 NRL Telstra Premiership, was content with his first outing.

"I thought the boys played well together. It was a pretty good first hit-out," Jackson told Bulldogs TV.

"There's always things to improve on, but I thought we defended pretty well."

The Bulldogs take on the Storm in another trial match at AAMI Park on February 21.
