Barnstorming Newcastle back-rower Beau Scott believes that the Knights' last-gasp 32-30 win over the Melbourne Storm won't be looked back on fondly if they don't account for the Warriors this weekend.
While the 30-year-old hard man was disappointed to miss his team's amazing win last weekend after failing a concussion test, Scott said despite the injection of energy at training it will mean nothing if they don't win back-to-back against the Warriors.
"Our aim now is to not repeat that sort of win but definitely win the majority of the games until the end of the season so we can build a bit of a platform moving forward into the pre-season," Scott told NRL.com
"We definitely can't rest on our laurels either which I think we have been guilty of a couple of weekends throughout the season, in the sense that we have put in good performances the week before and then back it up with a poor showing the following week.
"Moving forward into next season we need to amend that and there is no better place to address that then this weekend."
Intriguingly both Newcastle and the Warriors have won five of their past seven games. With his team's more fancied opponents looking to continue their run into finals football, Scott believes winning is just a matter of the Knights continuing their own good form.
"There's no easy games in the NRL so the Warriors are going to be fired up this weekend. They are looking to play semi-finals football this year so they'll want to finish their year off strongly so hopefully we can put in a good performance," Scott said.
"For us it is just a matter of going out there and doing it for the home fans and making them proud of what we do week-in, week-out.
"We're a work in a progress still. We have had a couple of solid training sessions this week and I guess we need to go out there and execute and complete our sets. We try to achieve that every week – it is just a matter of going out there and actually doing it!"
While Newcastle's mediocre season has been slightly revived by their recent successes, Scott believes all the negative occurrences throughout the year will put them in good stead for the remainder of the season and onwards.
With Scott extending his contract until the end of 2017 and Rick Stone being sworn in as head coach for the next two years, the NSW forward is excited to see out his career in the Hunter.
"I have dealt with Rick over the past few years I've been at the club. He loves Newcastle and he has the best intentions for the club and the players at the club," Scott said.
"It is important for us as a playing group to make a smooth transition to the new coach and make sure we are all on board with what we're all trying to achieve at the club.
"We have some young kids coming through now and I look forward to the next couple of years to work alongside them and hopefully pass down some direction to them through the pre-season and throughout 2015 and beyond."
