The Sydney Roosters have announced the signing of Raiders forward Lagi Setu to a one-year contract.

The 26-year-old Setu was granted a release from the final year of his deal with Canberra.

"Lagi is a back-rower with terrific footwork, power and speed off the mark, and he will add some great depth to our NRL squad," Roosters recruitment manager, Peter O’Sullivan said in a statement.

Setu has played 71 games in the NRL to date since making his debut with the St George Illawarra Dragons in 2007.

Following a two-year stint with the Brisbane Broncos, Setu commenced a two-year Mormon mission in 2011. He returned to the NRL in 2013 with the Melbourne Storm before linking with the Raiders in 2014.

He also represented Samoa in the 2008 Rugby League World Cup.
