The Warriors were already four games into their current losing streak when they came up against the Cowboys in Townsville in Round 23 of last year. The Cowboys promptly made it five straight losses, winning in emphatic fashion.

By halftime it was 22-6 to the home side, and in the end it was 52-12. Young halfback Michael Morgan produced his best performance to date for the Cowboys in what was 18th first-grade game. Morgan was always dangerous running the ball and played a major part in the lead-up to three of his team's nine tries. He was the man-of-the-match in the 40-point win.

Cowboys winger Ashley Graham scored three tries and halfback Johnathan Thurston kicked eight goals.

Warriors coach Brian McClennan moved closer to the sack with the crushing defeat.
