Jamie Lyon during the Sea Eagles' Round 24 loss to the Eels at Pirtek Stadium.

Outsiders often marvel at the way Manly remain such a high-functioning club amidst what appears to be inner turmoil; perhaps much of the credit should go to Dally M Captain of the Year Jamie Lyon.

While Sea Eagles coach Geoff Toovey isn't afraid to show his emotions, Lyon rarely gets above mildly upset or amused and it is that calmness that seems to hold his team together.

Named Captain of the Year in 2012 alongside co-captain Jason King, the 32-year-old took on sole responsibility this season and remains one of the finest players in the competition.

Perhaps his greatest test is yet to come as Manly prepare to farewell some club stalwarts in King and Glenn Stewart over the off-season.
