Benji Marshall did not sign with the Broncos to play in the halves.

With his playing contract with the Broncos now formally registered by the NRL, Marshall believes he will rediscover his running game under mastercoach Wayne Bennett but is not expecting to wear the No.6 or 7 jersey.

"I didn't come here to pay in the halves, that's the first thing," Marshall told Broncos.com.au.

"I think it is a great opportunity to step away from that role, when you play in the halves you have to do a lot of organising and sometimes you forget about what you do yourself.

"Over the years of ball-playing so long, I forgot about my running game, that is something I expressed to Wayne [Bennett] and something I want to find."

The former Wests Tigers and Dragons star surprised many by signing a deal with the Broncos.

"I was very nervous coming here and something I didn’t think was possible to happen. I'm very excited at the opportunity and I think this colour looks alright on me."
