Game One of the 2024 Ampol Women's State of Origin will kick off on Thursday, May 16 with NSW and Queensland to battle it out across a historical three-game series.

Taking place on the eve of NRL Magic Round Brisbane 2024 (May 17-19), the Thursday night showdown will officially launch the 2024 Ampol State of Origin series, with both the men and women set to battle it out from May to July.

After last year's two-game series saw Queensland scrape through on a points aggregate system and as current holders of the Shield, Tahnee Norris' women have the first opportunity to host the expanded series twice and defend their title in 2024.

It will be the first time that a standalone Women’s Origin game has been held at Suncorp Stadium and follows a record-breaking year for the event, with new attendance and broadcast benchmarks set across both games in 2023, including a crowd of 18,275 in Townsville.

Game Two and the potential decider will be played out in front of passionate Sky Blues fans at McDonald Jones Stadium Followed by Game II on Thursday, 6 June at McDonald Jones Stadium while Game Three will return to Queensland Country Bank Stadium on June 27.

The history behind women's State of Origin

Interstate rivalry between New South Wales and Queensland began in 1999 but wasn't officially called State of Origin until 2018.

In 2023, the Origin expanded to a two-game series and, after both sides came away with a win, Queensland were crowned winners on a points aggregate system.

2024 will see the game expand to a three-game series for the first time.
