NRL Late Mail Round 8: Crichton on track; Arthars to miss

Bulldogs skipper Stephen Crichton remains on track to make his return from a shoulder injury in Friday's showdown with the Broncos.

The news is not so good for the defending premiers, who have ruled out Jesse Arthars due to a calf injury suffered in last week's win over the Wests Tigers.

Samoan star Jeremiah Nanai is ready to complete his comeback from off-season shoulder surgery, while Euan Aitken is pushing to play his first game since Round 2 when South Sydney plays Melbourne on Saturday night.

Sharks: Cam McInnes has been cleared for his first game since tearing his ACL in Round 24 last year. The inspirational skipper will come off the bench on Friday night. Broncos: Fullback Jesse Arthars was initially named to play but hasn't come up. "He has a bit of cork down the shin there that bled into the calf so that was unfortunate," coach Michael Maguire said on Thursday. Hayze Perham has come into the side at fullback and Thomas Duffy is added to the bench. Hooker Cory Paix is also set to slide straight back into the No.9 jumper after recovering from a head knock. No such luck for Payne Haas or Corey Jensen, who will miss Friday's match. Ben Talty and Jack Gosiewksi are set to start at prop in a new-look front row.

Bulldogs: Captain Stephen Crichton is set to complete his comeback from a shoulder injury after just falling short of an early return last week. The Bulldogs will be without Jacob Kiraz on Friday night after the winger succumbed to a knee injury. Jonathan Sua will start in his place, having replaced Kiraz in the second half last week. Alekolasimi Jones and Alex Conti came out of the side in the 24-hour update.

Dragons: Coach Dean Young revealed during the week that Kyle Flanagan will act as hooker Damien Cook's back-up off the bench. Winger Christian Tuipulotu remains in the reserves as he pushes to return from a knee injury, while Hame Sele is on track to line up in the centres after recovering from an eye socket injury. Emerging playmaker Kade Reed will make his NRL debut at halfback having impressed in the Pre-Season Challenge and the opening weeks of the NSW Cup season. Ryan Couchman is set to slot straight back into the second row in his return from suspension, replacing the suspended Jaydn Su'A. The Dragons have won only two of their last 15 games against the Roosters.

Roosters: Centre Billy Smith is on track to return from a knee injury after falling short in his comeback bid last week. The Roosters are otherwise settled as they look to build on last Sunday's win over the Knights. The Roosters have won five of their last six Anzac Day clashes against the Dragons.
