Matt Elliott looks at the importance of supporting the ball carrier.

This week on the NRL Breakdown, Matt Elliott looks at the importance of supporting the ball carrier and how effort off the ball in attack works away at a defensive line.

When the defence is forced to continually answer questions, it means they cannot commit defenders in the tackle and it opens up opportunities to not only offload the ball but also to get quick play-the-balls and continue to get the defensive line retreating.

Elliott highlights the NRL Telstra Premiership teams who are working hard on both sides of the ball and are being rewarded either with points, or easy yardage.

He also demonstrates how easy it is to defend when a team hasn't got attackers pushing up in support.
