Matt Elliott looks at second phase football and how it breaks down defences.

He's a veteran coach of 272 NRL games and Matt Elliott is back on NRL.com for season 2016 to dissect all the plays that matter in The Breakdown.

This week Elliott looks at the opportunities created by second phase play, how it can break down defences and the need for the attacking team to be alert and push up immediately after an offload.

Brad Fittler's City Origin team was very effective at creating points from second phase play, while the Kangaroos were slow to react several times against New Zealand.
