NRL CEO Todd Greenberg says there are no plans to introduce a player transfer window despite two more players leaving for England this week and ongoing doubt about the playing future of Eels winger Semi Radradra.
On Friday morning it was confirmed that Raiders forward Frank-Paul Nuuasuala has signed with Super League powerhouse Wigan effective immediately, the news coming just 24 hours after James Segeyaro's move to Leeds was signed off by the Panthers.
There could be more player movement in the coming days in the lead-up to the June 30 deadline in what has been one of the most fluid markets for mid-season player transfers in the game's history.
But rather than viewing the switching of players between clubs as a reason to institute a more formalised player transfer window as happens in other sports around the globe, Greenberg said it is an indicator that the current system is delivering the desired outcomes for both players and clubs.
"One of the great things about the contract system that we have for players is their ability to move as needed, for both players and clubs," Greenberg said at the opening of Rugby League Central Queensland on Thursday.
"Clearly we'll look at some changes in the next collective bargaining agreement with the players but I think the system we've got now is working."
The most discussed player movement of the season to date has been the Fijian getaway for Eels winger Semi Radradra that has seen widely differing reports of his future at the Parramatta club.
Contracted to the Eels until the end of the 2017 season but with reportedly big money offers from French rugby union, where the Kangaroos winger will be playing has been hotly debated but Greenberg is confident he will take his place back in the NRL in Round 17.
"Everyone is jumping down this conclusion that Semi is in Fiji and not coming back and the information that I've got and the discussions that I've had with Parramatta is that he'll be back and he'll be playing in their next game," Greenberg said.
"He's on contract with them until the end of 2017 and our expectation is and our understanding from Parramatta is that he will fulfil his obligations under his contract.
"Like anybody, when clubs commit to players and players commit to clubs there are contracts in place and we expect that Semi will do exactly that, complete his contract."
