There are plenty of question marks out at the foot of the mountains with a number of new faces at the club. It makes them a bit of a lottery for Fantasy coaches, with a stack of mid-range players but not too many genuine guns or attractive rookies.
Fantasy Guns
Hooker Kevin Kingston ($345,300) is the most expensive player at the club and has the potential to be one of the best rakes in the game from a fantasy perspective, but the presence – and electric form – of James Segeyaro ($321,500) means the two will be battling each other for game time, and each will most likely spend some time in the back row. It's not an ideal situation for Fantasy coaches and there are better hooking options out there.
Warriors recruit Elijah Taylor ($333,900) moulded himself into a high quality Fantasy back rower who gets through a mountain of defence and should find his way onto the roster of a fair few Fantasy coaches in 2014, although he will face plenty of competition for minutes with a number of quality back-rowers at Penrith this year.
Star signing Jamal Idris ($290,700) can rack up big points on his day but he doesn't come cheap after some impressive performances for the Titans last season.
Value Buys
Jamie Soward ($309,900) has a lot of upside potential given his propensity for racking up massive kick metres – but he needs to rediscover his running game and return to the type of form that swept St George Illawarra to the 2010 premiership with Soward as one of the top Fantasy halves.
Wes Naiqama ($121,400) is very cheap and available at both centre and wing, which will make him an appealing option if he can edge his way past a number of other quality outside backs to make Penrith's top 17. His brother Kevin ($170,900) is more expensive but still underpriced if he can push past Matt Moylan ($232,500) in the race for the Panthers No.1 jersey.
Cash Cows
There are a handful of rookies in the Panthers squad but each of them looks a fair way off making it into Ivan Cleary's best 17. Shaun Spence ($107,000) played a few games for the Tigers last year and could be one to watch, and Luke Capewell ($107,000) may come into contention if either of the starting halves pairing of Jamie Soward and Peter Wallace pick up a long term injury.
