The NRL LIVE 2013 app has been named the best sports app in Australia.

The NRL LIVE 2013 App, downloaded by more than 800,000 Rugby League fans, has been recognised as the best sports app in Australia at the 2013 Australian Mobile Awards in Sydney.

The big win caps a huge year online for the NRL and digital partner Telstra, with NRL LIVE 2013 App’s ability to broadcast live matches to fans playing a major part in it beating out a host of top sports apps consumed across Apple iOS and Android devices.

"This has been the first year of a five-year digital roadmap with the NRL and this win is a real indication we’re heading in the right direction."

“The NRL Live 2013 App is all about Telstra and the NRL engaging with fans and bringing them closer to the game they love,” Telstra Director Digital Media and Content Adam Good said on Monday.

“Tuning in to live matches on your smartphone or tablet is great fun, and it’s an innovation we’re proud to be able to offer Rugby League fans.

“This has been the first year of a five-year digital roadmap with the NRL and this win is a real indication we’re heading in the right direction.”
