NRL Snapshot: Round 10

There were epic brain snaps, dramatic finishes and plenty of upsets in a highly entertaining Round 10 of the NRL Telstra Premiership.  

It will be a game forever remembered for its crazy finish, something Raiders fans will never want to watch again. When the Dragons missed a field goal attempt at the end of the first half of extra time, it should have been the final action of the half. But a rush of blood from Raiders duo Jack Wighton and Jordan Rapana resulted in a dramatic intercept try to St George Illawarra's Euan Aitken to end the match. It'll go down in the blooper reels.

Jarrod Croker at just 25 years of age became Canberra's all-time leading point-scorer during Friday night's game against the Dragons, a remarkable effort that sees David Furner's 16-year record surpassed.

Croker's one-try, two-goal haul saw him reach 1,224 points and go two clear of Furner as he continues his steady rise up the competition's all-time point scorer's list.  

It was an emotion-charged Pirtek Stadium when the Eels played their first game after the salary cap drama and the shedding of Anthony Watmough (retired) and hooker Nathan Peats (Gold Coast). The Eels went into the game with a clear target, win 12 from their next 15 games, while South Sydney were on the verge of losing their fifth game in a row. 

Greg Inglis moved to five-eighth with South Sydney's season on the line and the Rabbitohs came back from a 20-6 deficit in the second half and stole the win with a try in the final minutes in an enthralling contest.

The Warriors started well but finished poorly and the Panthers made them pay. It was Penrith's first match this season that was not decided in the final three minutes of the contest. The Panthers took the game to Christchurch, but were by far the more comfortable side and Jamie Soward put the icing on the cake with an incredible conversion from the sideline in blustery conditions. 

The first game of a double-header at Suncorp Stadium and it lived up to the hype with Cameron Smith's second career field goal deciding a dramatic contest. The everlasting image from the game will be from Smith picking up Thurston in the heat of battle. Tohu Harris made the play of the week with a try-saving one-on-one tackle on Cowboys flyer Antonio Winterstein. 

Tom Trbojevic made his return from injury weeks earlier than predicted and replaced Brett Stewart (hamstring) at fullback, but it had little effect against a dominant Broncos side. Anthony Milford was at his electrifying best and the Sea Eagles had few answers. Martin Taupau was put on report for an ugly tackle and was charged by the NRL match review committee in an incident that could see the enforcer miss up to four matches.

The Knights went into the game with a rookie five-eighth (Jack Cogger), a halfback who had played just one NRL game (Brock Lamb) and five other players under the age of 20. The Sharks showed no mercy in a 62-0 drubbing in which Valentine Holmes scored four and Sosaia Feki scored three. It was a tough day at the office for Newcastle players and fans, while the Sharks showed they are one of the heavyweights in the competition. 

Canterbury-Bankstown's pack was far too strong for the Wests Tigers and bullied the contest from the outset. The Bulldogs showed no signs of missing Will Hopoate (Sunday game), while Wests Tigers lost Robbie Farah early in the contest when he was accidentally knocked out while attempting a tackle on Josh Reynolds. Farah was later cleared of any serious injury at hospital. 

A dominant second-half performance from the Titans all but ended the Roosters' finals hopes with a shock result on the Gold Coast. Latrell Mitchell scored an amazing try where he torched several would-be defenders, but it was the Titans who had the last laugh with three tries in nine minutes sealing the result.
