NRL Snapshot: Round 7

The biggest news out of Round 7 was the season-ending injury to Warriors superstar fullback Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, who did an ACL in his side's important win over the Bulldogs. It is a terrible blow to the Warriors' and New Zealand's hopes in 2016. 

The Eels, Broncos, Cowboys and Sharks all had big wins, while the Dragons finally ended their point scoring drought with a morale boosting win on the Gold Coast. 

A Cooper Cronk field goal in golden point helped Melbourne to another win while Anthony Milford, Michael Morgan, Tui Lolohea and Ben Barba all had big performances in winning teams.

Manly's Matt Parcell and Brenton Lawrence were ruled out before kick-off, while Jorge Taufua was injured in the second half as the Eels held firm to run out convincing winners at Brookvale Oval. The Sea Eagles were their own worst enemy in an absorbing battle, gifting the Eels three tries through kicks they couldn't defuse. Michael Jennings celebrated his 200th NRL game with two tries as Parramatta continued their best start to a season in decades.

Michael Morgan set up four tries and scored one himself as the Cowboys proved there was no premiership hangover with a dominant performance over South Sydney. Morgan is all but a certainty to be picked on the bench for Australia in the upcoming Test match. Adam Reynolds made a decent return from injury for the Rabbitohs in a badly beaten team.

Lachlan Coote again showed he could be a contender in the representative arena with an amazing effort on effort play to save a try for the Cowboys.

Gareth Widdop broke a 171-minute point scoring drought for the Dragons when he stepped off his left and scored in the first half, and a quick-fire 18 points was enough to beat the Titans who were hit hard by injuries. 

Tyrone Roberts returned from a knee injury, but Gold Coast were hampered by injuries to hooker Daniel Mortimer, forward Eddy Pettybourne who lasted just nine minutes before he suffered a compound fracture of his finger that may require follow-up surgery, and rookie half Ashley Taylor who was forced from the field in the final minute with concussion. 

The Titans will welcome back Greg Bird next week from a one-game suspension.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck left the field early and has since been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury in a devastating blow to the Warriors after a good win over the Bulldogs. 

Tuimoala Lolohea continued his great start to the season, filling in at fullback and causing havoc. It was a much-needed win for the Warriors but the Bulldogs were left thinking it was one that got away. Rookie Kerrod Holland continues to perform well for the Bulldogs in the centres, while the halves pair of Josh Reynolds and Moses Mbye failed to fire.

This was a comprehensive demolition from a team that wants to go one better in 2016 and the Broncos will take a heck of a lot of stopping this season. Anthony Milford is the form player in the competition and continues to dazzle with amazing skills, scoring a hat-trick, but the Knights were little hope after losing Jeremy Smith before the game to a knee injury and then playing the second half with only one fit player on the bench – a debutant at that. 

Injuries to five-eighth Jarrod Mullen, hooker Tyler Randell and winger Nathan Ross left Newcastle desperately outmatched in a horror night at Suncorp Stadium. It's the second time in as many weeks that Brisbane have kept their opponents scoreless, with the Broncos now having the best defence in the competition. 

The Knights did create a nice slice of history with three sets of brothers taking the field against the Broncos: the Mata'utias, Sims and Saifitis.

The Sharks won their fourth in a row to move into equal second on the NRL ladder. Cronulla skipped out to an early lead and were never really challenged. Ben Barba looks to be returning to the form that captured him a Dally M Medal with a two try performance.

The Raiders again looked flat for the second week in a row after losing 36-6 to the Eels last start.

A long-range Cooper Cronk field goal in golden point was the difference for the Storm as the Wests Tigers slumped to their fifth loss in a row. It was a much better showing from the Wests Tigers, but they left Leichhardt Oval with nothing to show for it despite multiple chances to win the game. 

Storm captain Cameron Smith admitted his team is travelling nowhere near their best, but emphasised the team had started the season 5-2 and only one team has a better record this season, the Broncos. Imagine what will happen for Melbourne when everything clicks.

Both teams blooded debutants, with Josh Addo-Carr and JJ Felise coming in for the Tigers, while Suliasi Vunivalu was a late inclusion for the Storm and it couldn't have started any better, with the Fijian-born winger scoring barely a minute into his debut.
