The NRL said today it will donate the proceeds from the fine paid by Sharks skipper Paul Gallen to two charities.
Gallen has until 5pm today to appeal against the fine imposed for comments he made on social media.
If no appeal is lodged, a donation will be made to both White Ribbon, which works to prevent violence against women and the Black Dog Institute which is a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mood disorders such as depression.
Head of Community, Adam Check said the NRL strongly supported both causes.
“The NRL has taken a strong stance on the issue of violence against women and we know that many people in our game suffer from depression and other conditions,” he said.
“So we hope these donations will assist both organisations to deal with two very important social issues.”
