Participants in New South Wales Rugby League-run competitions and programs now have the opportunity to kick goals both on and off the football field thanks to a new deal struck between the NSWRL and the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS).
The NSWRL and ICMS have partnered to provide industry placement coupled with tuition fee scholarships. In addition to tuition fee financial assistance, the scholarship winners will gain invaluable paid 'hands-on' experience working with the NSWRL.
To celebrate the new partnership, coach of the NSW VB Blues Laurie Daley, NSWRL CEO David Trodden, and NSWRL Welfare and Education Programs Manager Greg Nichols attended the Scholarship and Dean's List Recognition Ceremony at the ICMS campus in Manly on Wednesday.
Trodden said the partnership with ICMS would provide participants in NSWRL-affiliated competitions with a great opportunity to advance their careers and gain industry-recognised qualifications.
"These scholarships will significantly improve the lives of those who are fortunate enough to be awarded them, whether they’re participants in NSWRL's senior or under-age competitions, our disabilities and development programs or involved with one of our other channels," Trodden said.
"Education is vitally important to career prospects and personal development and through this agreement, both the NSWRL and ICMS are making it more accessible to those involved in NSWRL-run programs and competitions."
Scholarships will be awarded across a one-year period starting from February 2015, with chosen candidates to undertake a Bachelors degree at ICMS.
Three scholarships will be awarded annually, with allocation based on merit as well as other factors including hardship. One scholarship will be awarded to school leavers.
