Australian representative James Maloney will finish his well-travelled career at the Penrith Panthers, with the club confirming his signing on Monday.
With Maloney's World Cup commitments now over, the 31-year-old's swap deal for Matt Moylan at Cronulla is for three seasons, taking him through until the end of 2020.
A 200-game veteran, Maloney has a strong record in guiding sides to grand final appearances after successful stints with the New Zealand Warriors and Sydney Roosters prior to the Sharks' maiden title in 2016.
"The Panthers have the roster and the resources to achieve success over the coming years and I'm really excited to now be part of that," Maloney said.
"The squad has a strong forward pack for me to play behind, plus some young and talented players coming through in the outside backs."
It is a strong coup for the Panthers, who have used five playmakers in 18 months alongside Nathan Cleary in the halves, and are missing promising utility Tyrone May over the pre-season through injury.
Maloney won't join his new teammates until January due to annual leave commitments, but was excited at the prospect of linking with the NRL's leading point-scorer.
"I'm looking forward to playing alongside him and hopefully helping him take his game to the next level," Maloney said.
Maloney is the first high-profile signing for the Panthers next season with the club also locking up their youth with May, Dylan Edwards and Isaah Yeo agreeing to new long-term deals in recent weeks.
"He has regularly succeeded at the highest levels of our game and brings a wealth of experience," Panthers Executive Manager Phil Gould said.
