They may be sitting on the bottom of Pool Blue after day one but Wests Tigers skipper Robbie Farah is confident that his side can upset the Knights in the second game of day two and secure their place in the quarter-finals.
The so-called 'group of death' lived up to its name on day one with all four teams registering one win and one loss apiece, the Tigers' inferior for-and-against placing them at the foot of the group ahead of the third round of matches.
Quite simply, the winners of the Sharks-Titans and Knights-Tigers matches will progress to the knockout phase of the tournament and Farah believes with the likes of James Tedesco, Marika Koroibete and Mitchell Moses they are capable of beating anyone.
"Second game was an improvement so we're looking to improve again tomorrow," Farah said. "I thought we played pretty well there, we've got a bit of speed out wide, young 'Teddy' is playing awesome so we give ourselves a chance."
Knights half Tyrone Roberts scored the opening try of the tournament in his side's loss to the Sharks but said their win over the Titans was built on greater respect for possession.
"It's all about competing. The ball's going to get thrown around so you've go to keep shutting it down. I think you've just got to hold onto the ball and the success will come.
"It was just more giving them opportunities in our own half. We were guilty of that in the first game and we just minimised our errors which was good for us."
Much of the Titans chances of progressing will depend on the availability of Dave Taylor. Taylor copped a knock to his knee in the opening game against the Sharks and will be assessed in the morning before a decision is made on whether he will play on day two.
Albert Kelly was the star for the Titans in their win over the Tigers and teammate David Mead said the format is perfectly suited to Kelly's attacking style of play.
"He certainly does bring a lot of confidence even in the 13-man game but in the nine-man game he can show even more of what he's got, which is very exciting for him," Mead said.
