Queensland winger Darius Boyd trains in the leap up to Origin II at the MCG.

Maroons winger Darius Boyd believes he will have plenty of time to form a combination with new centre partner Will Chambers despite being troubled by a groin injury in the early days of Queensland camp.

Boyd missed the squad's visit to Proserpine on Tuesday and cut a solitary figure as he was put through a light fitness test by the Maroons' medical staff on Wednesday morning.

He is not expected to take part in the team's first full training session on Thursday afternoon but doesn't believe it will have a negative impact on his preparation for the Holden State of Origin Series decider next week at Suncorp Stadium.

Boyd, Josh Papalii (knee), Matt Scott (neck) and Cooper Cronk (knee) all entered Queensland camp with injury concerns but Boyd says it is representative of a normal Origin build-up.

"It's not ideal but every Origin camp seems to be like this," Boyd said. "You look at NSW and they've got their own issues with injuries and suspension so this is just part of it.

"It's hard to have 17 guys fit and ready to go but the staff are great here and get you through and everyone will be ready for Wednesday I'm sure.

"Preparation is always the key but in saying that we've had the same squad for a long time. 'Coops' (Cronk) has played close to 20 games now and 'Gags' (Dane Gagai) has been here the whole series so far so everyone knows their job and it's just a matter of fine tuning things before the game.

"I only did straight-line running, I didn't test it too much, just see how it was going after Friday and it seems to be going pretty well so far.

"Everyone says [groin injuries] usually heal up pretty quick and after two or three days it's feeling pretty good."

Having formed the most lethal centre/wing partnership in Origin history with Greg Inglis, Boyd must now strike up a new combination on the left edge with Storm centre Will Chambers.

Having played on the opposite wing to Boyd in his first three Origin appearances, the season-ending injury to Billy Slater has opened the door for Chambers to edge in closer to the action.

Although he plays right centre for Melbourne, Boyd has no doubt that Chambers will adjust well to life on the left next Wednesday.

"Will's a quality player and has played a number of different positions, wing and both centres for his club, and he's played for Australia this year so looking forward to playing with him," said Boyd, who sits second behind Inglis on the all-time Origin try-scoring list.

"I've known Will for a long time now, known him since he came through the Queensland Cup (with Norths Devils) so we've been pretty good mates for a little while now so I don't think it will take too long to get a bit of a connection going.

"He's obviously shown in his first two Origin games how much he has developed and how good a player he is and he deserves his spot here.

"He was one of our best in his first two Origin games and I'm really looking forward to playing with him."

The absence of Slater has also opened the way for Dane Gagai to make his Origin debut on the right wing where he will play outside Justin Hodges.

A former teammate at the Knights, Boyd said he expects Gagai to be nervous on such an important occasion but backed him to perform on the game's biggest stage.

"I think he'll be nervous before kick-off and on game day but once you get out there and get your first touch you get into the flow of the game," said Boyd, who will be making his 23rd appearance for Queensland.

"He deserves his spot here and I'm sure he'll do a good job."
