From the Sharks' off-side penalty in Round 1 at Leichhardt Oval to the match-winning try to Greg Inglis at Etihad Stadium in Origin and all the controversial decision in between, one thing has remained a constant... blaming the referees.
Tonight on NRL Daily host Brad Fittler shows his more compassionate side by siding with the referees as he takes a look at the comments made by Sharks coach Shane Flanagan after their loss at WIN Stadium against the Dragons in Rivalry Round.
“Shane Flanagan’s comments against the ref illustrate the pressures of coaching,” says Fittler. “As a coach you rip in and try hard and when the team doesn’t walk away with the points and it makes your frustrated.
“I think what we saw from Shane was that he is willing to get on the front foot and go into bat for his players, I don’t think the refs are to blame for the result I think Shane was just rallying behind his players.
“His outburst is just part of the gig. Trying to keep pressure on the refs and off his players and he’s doing a good job.”
From the three controversial decisions in the match, Fittler agrees with the referees on two out of the three occasions.
“I think the refs got the Wade Graham forward pass correct, I think the Matt Cooper knock on was 50/50 but I’m happy with the call, and I agree with Shane that Ben Hornby did knock on off the drop out.”
In the midst of Rivalry Round we also take a look at tonight’s fierce clash between the Rabbitohs and the Roosters. We also cast an eye on the judiciary charge laid against Sam Kasiano and how he will be missed against the Sea Eagles if found guilty.
