This week’s NRL Rivalry Round marks the start of a thrilling race to be part of the Telstra Premiership Finals Series with just two points separating the teams placed fifth to 11th on the Telstra Premiership table.

Ahead of the first release of tickets tomorrow for the 2013 Telstra Premiership Grand Final, NRL stars Johnathan Thurston and Michael Ennis today highlighted the importance of a Rivalry Round win to start a finals run.

Rivalry Round kicks off on Friday night with the Queensland blockbuster between the Cowboys and Broncos in Townsville and the Bandaged Bear Cup clash between traditional rivals the Bulldogs and Eels at ANZ Stadium.

“We always love playing the Broncos and this game is do-or-die for both teams, which should take it to a different level,’ Cowboys co-captain Johnathan Thurston said.

“Neither of us can afford a loss at all.”

Bulldogs captain Michael Ennis said there was added pressure to perform in a clash against one of the club’s arch rivals in Parramatta.

“At this time of year, every match is crucial,” Ennis said.

“Everyone is looking to build momentum and coming off the bye it’s important we produce a good performance on Friday night.

“Our clubs have such a great rivalry and it will be great to see supporters from both teams out in force on Friday night.”

In other Rivalry Round matches, on Saturday the Dragons host the Raiders in Wollongong and the Titans tackle the Rabbitohs on the Gold Coast.

On Sunday, the Warriors play the Storm, the Sharks face the Panthers and the Knights are up against the Roosters.

Rivalry Round concludes next Monday with the classic ‘Fibros v Silvertails’ battle between Wests Tigers and Manly at Campbelltown.
