He was partly responsible for bringing the decorated career of Corey Parker to an end last Friday night but North Queensland co-captain Matt Scott says the Broncos legend is deserving of a rugby league farewell on the Kangaroos' tour to England in November.
With his 15-year NRL career coming to a close after 347 games in dramatic circumstances in Townsville last week, Parker has not yet hung up the boots completely, one of eight Brisbane players added to the Kangaroos train-on squad for the upcoming Four Nations tournament.
Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga himself finished his top flight rugby league career by leading Australia on the 1994 Ashes Tour of England and back in June said that "I'm not about to deny Corey that chance to finish in the green and gold".
With the Rugby League World Cup now little more than 12 months away there have been calls to look to the future and select those players who will be eligible next season but Parker's Queensland teammate is adamant he should feature in the 24-man squad.
"Without a doubt," Scott told NRL.com. "He's shown all year what he's got to offer.
"Everyone was surprised when he announced his retirement knowing what type of football he was still playing and still had in him and he showed during the year in the Anzac Test that he can still get the job done for Australia.
"Mal would have the utmost faith in him so it's a great way to finish his career from his point of view and he deserves every bit of it."
Scott's support is not the only voice behind the Parker push with Broncos teammate Adam Blair expecting to face off against the 34-year-old at least one more time while Benji Marshall and Michael Ennis both endorsed his selection on NRL 360 on Tuesday night.
Parker's appearance in the Anzac Test win over New Zealand in Newcastle in May was his 13th game for the Kangaroos having made his debut in the green and gold against Wales in the 2011 Four Nations tournament in Wrexham.
The other Brisbane players added to the Kangaroos train-on squad on Tuesday were incumbents Darius Boyd, Sam Thaiday, Matt Gillett and Josh McGuire along with Ben Hunt, Corey Oates and Anthony Milford.
Gillett is expected to be ruled out due to the need for further shoulder surgery before the team departs for the Test against New Zealand in Perth on October 15.
The Prime Minister's XIII will gather in Brisbane on Wednesday ahead of their clash with the Papua New Guinea Prime Minister's XIII in Port Moresby on Saturday, holding an open training session at Langlands Park from 3.30pm Wednesday afternoon.
