Papua New Guinea international Mark Mexico has signed with the Cronulla Sharks, inking a one-year deal that will see him join the club immediately for the remainder of the 2014 season.

The 25-year-old front-rower has been playing for the PNG Hunters this year in the Intrust Super Cup and is the second Hunters player to sign with an NRL team after Wellington Albert joined the Panthers earlier this season.

The 106 kg prop, who played for the Kumuls at last year’s World Cup, said he was thrilled at the chance to join the club, and was hopeful more of his PNG Hunters teammates would have the opportunity to join the top-flight competition.

“I am looking forward to the challenge with the Sharks and will give it my absolute best,” Mexico said. “I will still be following the boys and the Hunters keenly and I hope a few more can also step up to the NRL ranks.”

Mexico has been named in the Sharks NSW Cup team to play Manly this week, and has an option to re-sign with the club in 2015.
