The NRL today clarified recent media commentary regarding the use of hire cars by the game’s Chairman or CEO.

Like other major organisations, the NRL uses hire cars from time-to-time – but only when schedules are tight, parking restricted or at times when taxis are difficult to get.

On these occasions, cars are secured at special corporate rates.

Recent media commentary acknowledges that other leading sports administrators use a hire car when they are travelling interstate.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Australian Rugby League Commission, John Grant, lives in Brisbane and travels interstate when he comes to Sydney.  He uses taxis when his tight schedule allows.

In regards to Dave Smith, it should be noted that his car is one from the Game’s sponsor, Holden, and not a hire car.  His use of hire cars is consistent with the demands of a CEO.
