Storm forward Kenny Bromwich admitted Melbourne's defending at times on Monday night was "unacceptable" as they suffered their first loss of the season at the hands of the Sharks in Cronulla.
After the 16-6 defeat Melbourne coach Craig Bellamy said he couldn't remember the last time all opposition tries came through the ruck, and Bromwich told NRL.com on Wednesday the team's defence wasn't up to its usual standard.
"We're all disappointed about how they went through us [on Monday night], and we'll be looking to address that this week," Bromwich told NRL.com.
"We take pride in our defence, especially in the middle, so it was unacceptable."
There weren't too many shining lights from the loss, but arguably the biggest positive to come out of the Storm camp was the emergence of Felise Kaufusi.
The 23-year-old made a huge influence off the bench, scoring the Storm's only try of the game, and his efforts didn't go unnoticed among his teammates.
"He had a huge game, he came off the bench and provided a spark for us, but I guess unfortunately none of us jumped on the back of it," Bromwich said.
"It was really good for him to come out and do that, and I'd like to see him continue that on."
The Storm will look for redemption this week against Newcastle, with both sides battling five-day turnarounds.
"I'm expecting a tough game, they've got a young and exciting team and experienced halves so they'll come out really hard with a good attitude, just like they did last year," Bromwich said.
"I think overall they've got a pretty solid young forward pack, and they'll be looking to come down here and do a job on us."
Saturday's game marks a special occasion for the Kiwi, as Bromwich will make his 50th NRL appearance.
The 24-year-old said it was particularly special to achieve the milestone playing alongside his brother Jesse at the Storm.
"It's awesome to be able to play 50 games for this club," Bromwich said.
"Especially at home because I'll be able to have my family here, and it'll be extra special to play my 50th with Jesse as well. I'm really looking forward to that."
