Melbourne will begin their road back to finals redemption when they step onto Allianz Stadium against the Roosters on Friday night.
The Storm have not won a finals match since their grand final victory over the Bulldogs in 2012.
The following season saw them bow out in straight sets and last year they were handed an elimination final defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.
Their finals drought has provided an intriguing subplot to this year's finals series.
Past failings will count for little on Friday night but it is no secret that Melbourne's winless September run is a source of great frustration for the men in purple.
"Yep, no doubt. I don't have to have a longwinded answer for that," Storm star Cooper Cronk said.
"We haven't played very well in finals series the last couple of years so it is about time Melbourne Storm played to its potential come September.
"This is why you play football, the opportunity to play the best teams, the best players on the biggest stage and fighting for a competition victory.
"It has been really disappointing that Melbourne Storm hasn't won a final for a period of time and hopefully we can turn that around and take advantage of the opportunity this weekend.
"This time around we've got a little bit of form, a little bit of momentum and playing relatively high standard. Let's go out and have a game against the best team in the competition and see where we stand."
No player is more accustomed to the biggest stage than Cooper Cronk.
The 31-year-old has played in five grand finals, 15 State of Origin games and represented Australia 27 times.
He is a man who is also well accustomed to achieving success and would love nothing more than to add to his already well-decorated trophy cabinet in a month's time.
"I've been lucky enough to experience the biggest stage in an NRL grand final and come out with a smile on our face and it is pretty hard to wipe that smile off," Cronk said.
"I'd love to be able to have an impact and give that opportunity to other kids at this club who haven't experienced it because it is one of the grandest days you can apply yourself to playing football.
"But that doesn't happen unless we play well on Friday night… one thing a Craig Bellamy team does not do, it doesn't get ahead of itself."
The form line for the Victorian side is a strong one. Their past three wins have all come against teams that finished inside the top five.
However their pursuit of their first finals win in three years will face the toughest of tests this week against a Roosters side currently on a 12-game winning streak.
